Shadow is the newest addition to HP. Kayt is now her proud owner, and has big plans for this mare. After receiving some photos Kayt, Sam and Liz took the 3 hour drive to see her. We just couldn't help but throw her in the trailer and take her home with us. She was just so sweet and way to cute. Being a registered Thoroughbred with the Jockey club she has a lip tattoo but was never raced. Her sire goes back to Northern Dancer a Preakness and Kentucky Derby winner while her mother goes back to Glint of Gold who earned almost 900K racing.
Her registered name is Shadowy but the three of us just couldn't see showing her under that name. With a three hour drive home we came up with the name Northern Gold HP. Northern from Northern Dancer Gold from Glint of Gold and HP for Hopeful Farms. Keep an ear open for this name you will be hearing it soon!
Watching her ride around the lumpy pasture we all figured she was at mostly track broke. Kayt rode her around and confirmed that she really was that green and needs a lot of work. She will spend a few weeks in the round pen getting to know us, the saddle and bridle. She has a lot of work to do. Our goals with her are to do basic hunter and hopefully some jumping.
At this point she is quarantined in the small barn with Forba. For being 16+ hands she is fairly comfortable in the smaller stalls. In a few weeks she will upgrade to the main barn and get a big 12x13 matted stall. She needs her feet done and it may take some time before they turn into normal feet again. She has one large crack in her right front and all are very splayed with no heel. Our farrier will have a hay day or rather a few months.

She is also in need of desperate chiropractic work. At first seeing her she had a mark on her left hip and she was not comfortable when she was pushed on. Watching her walk away she paddled in horribly with her right hind. She was also soar in her back. We think she may have something out in her hip and this is causing the change of movement and back soar ness. Our vet will be out soon to do some work on her and see if she will be sound for jumping after a few adjustments.
We hope to get some better photos of her soon.
